3. Oil seal wear - The stuffing box seal has the significant disadvantage of rapidly wearing out. Water begins oozing from the valves after the valves are unscrewed, and the tap starts to drip slightly.
4. The entire valve is worn out - Occasionally, a tap may deteriorate and start dripping due to its specific lifespan. No matter how tight you tighten all the connections, it won’t make a difference.
5. Damaged gasket - Rubber gaskets wear out over time: they deform, harden, crack, and break. It is probably worn gaskets that are causing the valve to leak in the closed position.

Fixing a leaky tap with the necessary tools

Fortunately, repairing a leaking tap is not difficult if you have the right tools. Fixing a tap is straightforward because replacement cartridges can often be found at the nearest plumbing store. If the crane is modified, the following tools may be needed (the exact list varies):

1. Adjustable wrench - Suitable for removing decorative nuts or cover plates from mixers if necessary, so they can be removed. Most plumbers use adjustable wrenches.
2. Allen key or screwdriver for removing single lever valve handle or valves - A specially designed screw (for a hexagon or a screwdriver) will appear once you remove the decorative cover. Dismantling the mixer requires turning off the motor.
3. Sharp knife - For removing plugs, adjusting rubber gaskets, and cutting fume tape or linen tow.

Additionally, you’ll need consumables, such as a cartridge and rubber gasket.

Valve taps come in two structurally different types. There is a worm gearbox in the first group. A rotating stem presses the gasket against the seat when it is rotated, and the stem moves forward. During hard squeezing, the gasket quickly becomes damaged, which causes the tap to drip. The gaskets need to be replaced in this case as the solution to the problem.

A two-valve tap that is dripping may be repaired by following these steps:

• Disassembling the handwheel and unscrewing the screw;
• The gland nut should be gently loosened;
• Using a gasket to unscrew the stem;
• Keeping the seat clean;
• Installation of a silicone or rubber gasket;
• Reverse the order of assembly.

These simple steps will stop the crane from dripping, which will quickly fix the problem.

Repairing a dripping mixer with a single lever

Generally speaking, these mixers are quite simple and durable. There are many reasons why a cartridge needs replacing, including drips from a closed tap or a tight handle on the mixer. As was already mentioned, the cartridge is the only part that needs to be replaced in such taps.

In both cases, it indicates either critical wear of the cartridge or imminent failure of the cartridge that requires immediate replacement. There is a decorative strip inside the case that hides the cartridge. The typical course of action is as follows:

• The water supply must be shut off.
• Remove the decorative plug from the handle.
• Disconnect the handle by unscrewing the fixing screw (it’s under the plug).
• With an adjustable wrench, remove the main nut after removing the handle.
• A new cartridge is then installed in its place after the cartridge is removed.
