Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the difference between a close coupled toilet and a back-to-wall toilet?

A close coupled toilet features the cistern mounted directly onto the back of the pan, forming one compact unit that’s easy to install and maintain. In contrast, a back-to-wall toilet has the pan positioned flush against the wall, with the cistern concealed inside the wall or a furniture unit. This creates a cleaner, more minimalist look by hiding pipework, but may require more involved installation.

2. Do close coupled toilets come with a soft-close seat?

Many of our close coupled toilets come complete with a soft-close seat, offering a quieter, more comfortable experience while also helping to protect the seat and pan from damage. Product details will clearly state whether a soft-close seat is included.

3. How much space does a close coupled toilet require?

Close coupled toilets are designed to be space-efficient. On average, you’ll need a projection of around 600–700mm from the wall to the front of the pan. However, if you're working with limited space, we also offer compact models with shorter projections that are ideal for cloakrooms or smaller bathrooms.

4. How much water does a close coupled toilet use per flush?

Most modern close coupled toilets come equipped with a dual flush system. This typically uses around 6 litres for a full flush and approximately 3–4 litres for a half flush, helping to conserve water while maintaining effective performance.

5. What water pressure is required for a close coupled toilet to function effectively?

Close coupled toilets generally work well with low to medium water pressure systems. A minimum pressure of 0.5 bar is usually sufficient for standard operation, but some dual flush systems may benefit from slightly higher pressure for optimal performance. If you're unsure, it's always best to check the specific product requirements or consult a professional plumber.
